At some point, almost everyone will experience an appliance that breaks down. Luckily, there are places like Ken's Appliance Service that can get them back in working order. It's never fun to have a broken unit, but here are some tips to make the repair as easy and quick as possible.
Give a detailed description of the problem to the dispatcher
It's alright to say, "My washer isn't working." It's much more helpful to say, "My washer will fill, but not go into an agitate or spin cycle." This helps narrow down the problem and allow the technician to get a better understanding of the repair before the visit. This allows them to pre-identify potential causes and ideally have parts on hand when they arrive for the visit. Obviously, a technician can't have every part for every machine on hand at all times, but with a little more information, there's a better chance they'll have the part they'll need.
Have all your paperwork ready
If you've got a newer machine, you'll need a receipt from where you bought the unit to verify the warranty status. Owner's manuals, model and serial information, and any related paperwork you received with the unit can also be helpful, but are not always necessary. If you're in a new construction home, typically the warranty will start on the day you buy the home, and if the appliances came with the home, your closing documents can serve as a purchase date.
Make sure there's room to work
It's easy for laundry to pile up when you have a washer down, but if the area is blocked off by a pile of clothes, it may be difficult for the technician to access the unit. They can move things that are in the way, but it's always appreciated when there's a tidy workspace to start from. If a unit needs to be pulled out to access the back for the diagnostic or repair, there will need to be space to do that as well. We use appliance sliders to protect the floor when we move appliances, but sometimes space can be tight, so it's nice to have a bit of extra room to move around.
Write down any questions
Once a repair is done, the technician will usually ask if there's any other questions or concerns about the appliance they're working on, or about other appliances around the home. This is a great opportunity to ask, "What does this setting do?" or "What temperature should my refrigerator be?" Sometimes it's hard to remember any lingering questions you may have when you're put on the spot, so write them down beforehand, and we'd be happy to answer them for you.
At the end of the day, if you forget to do any of these things, it'll be alright. If you do follow these tips, you may have a quicker, easier repair with less stress the day of.
